Biography

Sandrine Schau is a Norwegian soprano based in Oslo, who has a particular love for the baroque and contemporary repertoire.

Sandrine studied classical singing at The Norwegian Academy of Music and The Barratt Due Institute of Music, and she is now doing a part time continuing education program in baroque singing at Universität der Künste in Berlin.

In 2025, Sandrine performed one of the leading roles, Bao, in the world premiere of Tze Yeung Ho's chamber opera «nara» with Hong Kong New Music Ensemble at Borealis Festival in Bergen. In 2024 she performed the roles Heidi/A Hand in the world premiere of the opera «Three Amputators» by Rachel J. Peters and Royce Vavrek with Arctic Sinfonietta at the Arctic Chamber Music Festival at Svalbard. Sandrine has also performed with The Royal Norwegian Navy Band at The Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo and in concerts in Halifax and Lunenburg, Canada.

She is regularly a soloist in church works such as Händel's «Messiah», Fauré's «Requiem», Vivaldi's «Gloria», and «Weihnachtsoratorium» and various cantatas by J.S. Bach.

Sandrine is also a passionate chamber musician, and she has done several chamber concerts arranged by nyMusikk (Norway's centre for contemporary music) with works by composers such as George Crumb and Kaija Saariaho.

Sandrine is also an experienced ensemble singer. She has been a permanent member of The Norwegian Ladies Choir since its debut in 2019, and she was a soprano in The Norwegian Soloists' Choir's Academy from 2020-2024. With the latter, she has performed at The Ultima Festival for contemporary music in Oslo in 2021 and 2024, The Davos Festival in Switzerland in 2022, and The Bergen International Festival in 2023. She has also sung with The Norwegian Soloists' Choir on several occasions, and was a part of the CD-recording of «St. Matthew Passion» by Bent Sørensen, for which the choir won the Norwegian Critics' Award in 2022.
